Droylsden is a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Tameside, immediately east of Manchester. The settlement grew rapidly during the Industrial Revolution and became closely associated with cotton manufacturing, engineering and the canal network. Its historic connection with the Ashton Canal reflects the important role waterways played in the development of the local economy. Today Droylsden is largely residential but remains an important part of the Greater Manchester urban area.
