Denton is a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Tameside in Greater Manchester, located east of Manchester and close to the border with Stockport. The settlement developed from a rural community into an industrial town during the 18th and 19th centuries. Hatting, textiles, coal mining and engineering became important local industries, leaving a distinctive industrial heritage. Today Denton is a substantial residential and commercial centre within the Greater Manchester region.
