Colne is a historic market town in Lancashire situated at the eastern edge of the Pendle district, close to the border with Yorkshire. The town developed as an agricultural market centre before expanding rapidly through cotton manufacturing and other industries during the Industrial Revolution. Its elevated position at the edge of the Pennines provides extensive views across the surrounding countryside. Colne retains a traditional town centre alongside a strong industrial heritage and serves as an important local commercial centre. Spring through autumn are particularly suitable for exploring the historic streets, canal routes and nearby hills.

The historical and tourist importance of the town

Colne's historic market tradition and textile heritage are reflected in its traditional buildings and former mill sites.
