Aberdaugleddau, known in English as Milford Haven, is a major harbour town in Pembrokeshire on the western side of the Milford Haven waterway. The deep natural harbour has supported maritime activity for centuries and became an important commercial port during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Modern development has made Milford Haven one of the United Kingdom's most significant energy and shipping centres, while fishing and traditional maritime activities remain part of its heritage. The town is also an important gateway to the spectacular coastline of southwest Wales.

The historical and tourist importance of the town

The Milford Haven waterfront and marina provide attractive views across the extensive natural harbour and are central to the town's visitor experience. Milford Haven Museum explores the maritime and social history of the area, while nearby Pembroke Castle and the historic town of Pembroke offer major medieval attractions. The Pembrokeshire Coast National Park surrounds much of the wider area, with coastal paths, beaches and wildlife sites easily accessible by car. Nearby Neyland, Dale and Angle provide further opportunities for exploring the waterway and coast.

Food, shopping and when to visit

Milford Haven has a broad selection of cafés, restaurants, pubs, takeaways and shops, with seafood and Welsh produce featuring strongly in the local food scene. The marina area provides a pleasant setting for dining beside the water. Late spring through early autumn is ideal for exploring the harbour, beaches and Pembrokeshire Coast Path, although the town's museums and indoor attractions can be visited year-round. Milford Haven is a practical base for exploring western and southern Pembrokeshire.
